Modern Warfare 3 SCAR-L Guide

In this Modern Warfare 3 SCAR-L guide, I will be giving you a complete overview of this weapon as well as discussing its strengths, weaknesses, best attachments, and strategies for using this weapon.

CoD MW3 SCAR-L Guide – Overview

The SCAR-L is the third Assault Rifle you get access to in the custom class screen. It is unlocked at level 6, and overall it is a solid weapon. It is an automatic weapon with a 30-round clip (a nice boost over the 20-round clip the SCAR-H had in MW2) with good accuracy, standard bullet damage, and decent range and firing rates.

Modern Warfare 3 SCAR-L Guide – Strengths

In my opinion, the SCAR-L is one of the better fully-automatic Assault Rifles in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. The kickback is modest, bullet damage is good, and a 30-round clip is enough to take out 2 players even if you are strafing and holding down the trigger.

The bullet damage is standard for an Assault Rifle – 3 non-body shots, or two shots with one being a headshot.

The best part though is that its accuracy is really good, which separates it from the fully automatic Sub Machine guns, which do not have the range, accuracy, or power of the SCAR-L.

MW3 SCAR-L Guide – Weaknesses

There are two weaknesses for the SCAR-L. The first is that it has the same effective bullet damage as the M4A1 (3 bullets to a kill) but a slower firing rate, making the SCAR-L actually slightly weaker than the M4A1 in terms of raw power. It does however make up for this in its slightly longer range.

The main problem with the SCAR-L is its longevity. It just does not have the clip size to take out groups of players or rack up large killstreaks. The SCAR-L takes a fraction of a second longer to reload than the M4A1. It is still fast with Sleight of Hand, but you can still notice the difference between the two.

It is hard to get a triple kill with the SCAR-L, especially if you are strafing and jumping around and trying to avoid getting killed yourself. Reloading does take a second, which can get you killed if you have to do it mid-battle.

Call of Duty MW3 SCAR-L Guide – Attachments and Proficiencies

For the SCAR-L, you have a few valid options for proficiencies. I like to use the SCAR-L for stealth builds. If I find myself going up against a team which is making heavy use of the Heartbeat Sensor, or the opponents are camping heavily, this can come in handy.

What you do here is use the attachments proficiency, pick a silencer and sight, and equip the Assassin perk. This will keep you off the radar from shooting and from UAVs. The SCAR-L is a bit better than the M4A1 for stealth builds since the former has better range, which helps make up for the silencer’s range penalty.

Another good proficiency is Focus, as this is perfect for strafing where you are likely to take a few non-fatal shots while taking down enemies.

Modern Warfare 3 SCAR-L Guide – Conclusion

Overall though, I think that the SCAR-L is a solid fully automatic machine gun. I prefer the M4A1 on small maps, but the SCAR-L is still a very, very good weapon. You could use the SCAR-L for bigger maps, but on those maps I do not see why you wouldn’t use something with a lot of range and accuracy like the Type 95 or M16A4.

You can always set up a custom class to use the SCAR-L with a stealth build, as it is a great weapon to use with a silencer and Assassin as its long range and fast, powerful bullets make it as effective as a Sub Machine gun but still give it a little range.
