Modern Warfare 3 PM-9 Guide – Overview

Of all the SMGs, the PM-9 probably has the highest overall power output. While the damage is similar to most other SMGs, the firing rate is much faster and it is almost completely capped out.

This gun has a 32 round clip size and is the second to last SMG that you unlock in Modern Warfare 3. It is unlocked at level 56.

Modern Warfare 3 PM-9 Guide – Strengths

As mentioned, the PM-9 is the most powerful sub machine gun in MW3 in terms of raw power output. It does not have much range or accuracy, but then again not much range or accuracy is needed for hip-fire builds.

This high power output is the main strength of the gun, as it allows players to take down enemies with ease, especially in close-quarters 1v1 situations.

In fact, even though the damage is slightly lower than other SMGs, this is deceptive and not noticeable in multiplayer. All SMGs take out a player in 3 shots, regardless of body part hit (exception: only need 2 hits if at least one of the shots is a headshot). The damage differences in SMGs only come into play when fighting Juggernauts, when shooting vehicles and equipment, or playing spec ops. In multiplayer, the damage per bullet is actually all the same!

CoD MW3 PM-9 Guide – Weaknesses

While this gun is perhaps the most powerful SMG, it is also the shortest lived. Its relatively small 32-round clip is depleted within a few seconds of holding down the trigger, which limits the amount of players you can realistically kill off of one clip with this weapon. The candle that burns twice as bright burns half as long, or so they say.

Additionally, you really need Scavenger to make full use of this weapon. This means that you cannot use Sleight of Hand (faster reloading) to make up for this gun’s small clip size.

Without Scavenger, this gun will run out of ammo extremely quickly and you cannot get more than a few kill killstreak without it.

Modern Warfare 3 PM-9 Guide – Proficiencies and Attachments

When fired from the hip with Steady Aim, I would consider this gun’s kick to be similar to other SMGs. It is still pretty accurate, and I would not consider Kick to be necessary with this weapon.

Instead, I recommend going 2 attachments and using either the silencer and rapid fire or the silencer and Extended Mags. The Extended Mag perk can help make up for this gun’s small clip size and give it the endurance it needs to handle multiple players at once.

You might even want to go with Rapid Fire and Extended Mag if you are not at all worried about staying off the radar. Personally I like to stay off the radar with hip-fire builds as it allows you to sneak closer to your enemies.

Shooting from the hip is not nearly as effective when the opponent knows where you are, so I always use a silencer when possible with an SMG. With this particular gun, you also want to stick to Scavenger for Perk Slot 1, Assassin for Perk Slot 2, and Steady Aim for Perk Slot 3.

This will keep you off the radar entirely, ensure you do not run out of ammo, and give you good accuracy when shooting form the hip.

While you need to make the most of your ammo when using this SMG, the PM-9 is likely to be the best overall SMG for hip-fire builds simply because it has the most power output. As your aim gets better and you become more skilled with SMGs, then this is your ultimate gun of choice in my opinion.
