As a result, you want to keep your gun in front of you when you go around a corner. If you know the corner is a long hallway, you may even want to stop and aim and then slowly walk out. If going around a corner leads to a short hallway or room, do not aim when you go in as you might want to shoot from the hip.

What I mean by this is that you have three options when shooting in MW3: you can move side-to-side, you can stand still, or you can move forwards or backwards.

Moving side-to-side is known as strafing. This is very effective at disrupting the aim of someone who is actually holding down their aim and trying to shoot you.

However, it only works when you are shooting from the hip. When you are aiming yourself, your movement speed is drastically reduced and your side to side movement really is not all that distracting. Only an extremely new player would be thrown off by something like that.

When you are not zoomed in however, it is very hard for a person who is aiming to actually hit you. This makes moving side-to-side best for when you are fighting at a distance short enough to not need to aim but far enough away to not get knifed.

Moving backwards is where most players get it wrong. When exchanging mutual fire from a distance at a target, a lot of players back-peddle as they are firing. This is a huge mistake.

Moving backwards does nothing to disrupt your enemy’s aim, but in Call of Duty, whenever you move, your gun experiences more kickback. Read that, and let it sink in. When you move when shooting, your gun moves more, making it harder to aim and shoot at your target.

As a result, if you are moving backwards, you are only interrupting your own aim and doing nothing to stop your opponent from hitting you.

The only time you want to move backwards is if you are going against an opponent who is either trying to knife you or has a shotgun. This way you can hopefully stay out of their range long enough for you to take them out. Do not aim against such a target, you want the faster movement speed of not being zoomed in.

Finally, you have the option to move forward. A lot of players like to inch forward as they are aiming and shooting a target. Again, this is a mistake, because it increases your gun’s kickback and makes your aim worse.

Instead, reserve moving forward while shooting to three situations: when trying to go in for a knife, when using a shotgun, or when shooting a fleeing target from the hip.
